Clinical Study of Sorbitol Tolerance Test in Various Renal Diseases

Abstract
Comparative study of sorbitol tolerance test and conventional liver function tests (Bromsulphalein retention test, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, alkaline -phosphatase, serum protein) was performed for the 30 patients of various renal diseases which were diagnosed by clinical symptoms, urinary finding and renal function tests.
The results were as follows;
1) Of the 30 cases of various. renal diseases, 23 cases 76.7 % of the total showed ¢¥abnormal sorbitol tolerance test (9 cases(75%) of acute glomerulonephritis, 5 cases (83.3%) of nephrotic syndrome and 9 cases(75%) of chronic renal diseases).
2) Of the 30 cases of various renal diseases,, abnormal :serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase was observed in 7 cases(24. 1%), abnormal Bromosulphalein retention test in 7 cases (38.9%); abnormal alkaline phosphatase in 7 cases(29.2% ), hypoaibuminemia in 11 cases(73.3% ). -
3) It is concluded that the high frequency of abnormal sorbitol tolerance test in renal diseases suggests the kidney might be involved in the metabolism of the soritol.
